3. Is it true that only the Costa del Sol will be affected?
1. Changes with UK Television reception in Spain; In 2013 Astra SES successfully launched the satellite Astra 2E in to orbit and will start to test transmissions March 2014. The launch of Astra 2E was postponed due to a rocket explosion that resulted in the launch site being shut down whilst investigators tried to work out why the $200 million rocket & payload exploded shortly after launch, the results eagerly awaited by both rocket scientists but also the Insurance Companies that had insured the rocket and the payload.
The Astra 2E satellite; The Astra 2E satellite will long awaited additional coverage for Europe both for standard, internet, HD and UHD transmissions for several satellite TV operators including SKY TV UK and FREESAT TV UK.
BBC spokesperson Alix Pryde has said “The overspill of the BBC’s services will be reduced so viewers outside the UK will find it even harder to receive them” This has already been seen when CH5 become unavailable on the Costa del Sol once Astra 2F come in to service with the new tighter beam on the UK.
The Astra 2E Footprint will have the same tighter beam when it starts to broadcast later in 2014 leaving many residents in Southern Spain unable to receive BBC1 or ITV in the conventional way although several satellite TV specialists have said;
A.We believe a 1.9 dish with a SKY+HD box and a SKY subscription will work
on the Costa del Sol to get you all of the channels.
B.We believe a 1.3 with a SKY+HD box and a SKY subscription along with a
UK VPN router will work on the Costa del Sol.
C.We believe a 2.4 dish will work
D.We believe a 3.1 dish will work
A. SKY TV -
The use of a suitable SKY+HD box and a UK VPN router would allow you to access BBC and ITV on demand and many SKY TV channels will still be accessed using an existing satellite dish or by upgrading the dish size.
SKY SPORTS - No change to SKY SPORTS
SKY MOVIES - No change to SKY MOVIES
SKY ENTERTAINMENT - Many channels such as BBC1, ITV, CH4, ITV2 etc may no longer be available using a SKY BOX unless it is connect to a UK VPN router, you then use “SKY ON DEMAND”
B. FREESAT TV - The use of a FREESAT Box in may not be suitable on the Costa del Sol although we do have several FREESAT type boxes available that also have access to IPTV although at present this access is only available using a FILMON stream so not a fool proof option, some channels such as BBC1HD and other HD channels may still be available on the Costa del Sol using a 1.9 satellite dish such as the Famaval 1.9.
